CAMP Guidelines for Dealing with Influenza and Similar Illnesses
May, 2010
Information about H1N1 Influenza symptoms and current recommendations can be accessed at
http://www.acacamps.org/hottopics/swine_flu.php
-
CAMP takes seriously its responsibility to protect the
health of our campers and staff. The use
of universal precautions, sending home, or not accepting any camper or staff
member with a suspected contagious illness is part of our overall policies for
staff and volunteers.
-
Due to the ongoing concern about H1N1 and other types of flu,
we have put into action the following guidelines for the 2010-11 Respite Season and 2011 Summer Camp
sessions:
- We will advise volunteers, staff, and campers of
the symptoms of H1N1 flu by referring them to the www.campcamp.org website to
review the H1N1 Guidelines and Information section.
- We will advise volunteers, staff, and campers
that if they are experiencing these symptoms that they should NOT plan to be at
CAMP and will be sent home if they appear at CAMP with these symptoms or any
other possible contagious illness.
- Due to the fact that this illness is often
spread by droplet or cough, any suspected influenza cases that arise while at
CAMP will be sent home ASAP and isolated until they leave CAMP property. Isolation precautions and cleaning of
possibly affected areas will be determined and activated at that time by CAMP
Chief Health Officer, following State Health Department recommendations, as
appropriate.
- CAMP staff will, as always, encourage good and
frequent hand washing for all campers, staff, and volunteers.
- Current information suggests that the contagious
period of this illness starts 24 hours before you show symptoms. As a result, we ask that anyone with a family member
displaying these symptoms consider this and notify CAMP Chief Health Officer,
Judy Foster, before arriving at CAMP. Please call (830) 634-2267 in Center Point, 210-671-5411 in San Antonio, or email

.
- We strongly encourage campers, volunteers and
staff to discuss their need for regular as well as H1N1 flu vaccinations with
their primary care physician.
- We will strictly follow these guidelines for the
protection of our campers since due to their medical conditions, are more
likely to become ill and develop more serious complications from illness.
