Children's Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) was founded over 28 years ago by volunteer health professionals and young counselors to provide summer camp experiences for children with serious and chronic disabilities. Over the years, our diverse volunteers have collaborated to provide recreational camp experiences that have kept safety, fun, and a fostering of independence as primary goals. Learning occurs from all avenues of volunteering. Many of our young counselors have chosen careers in health, counseling, service, and education as a result of their experience at CAMP.
Listed below are a multitude of opportunities to volunteer for people from all walks of life. Camp Counselors, Medical/Professionals, Paid Seasonal Staff, and Work Parties are the crux of what allows our camp to be successful.
Volunteer Camp Counselors
CAMP needs high school, college age, and adult counselors for it's Summer and Respite camps to enable children with special needs reach their maximum potential. Throughout the summer, we will need approximately 400 counselor volunteers! Each individual summer session runs Sunday-Friday and overnight stay is required. The most rewarding experience at CAMP will be the friendships formed with fellow counselors and campers. Nothing compares to the smiles our volunteers help place on the faces of our children. Volunteers must be 14 years or older. Adults highly sought. CAMP provides a thorough orientation and continuous training.
Training of Volunteers: We provide training opportunities for all new volunteers. Each person will be trained to care for a camper's daily living needs, maintain their health and safety, and ensure that they have the best time possible at Camp CAMP . Our mandatory pre-camp training will be in early June. Additional trainings are offered during our monthly weekend Respites. For exact dates, please see the CAMP calendar .

Service Hours: As a CAMP volunteer you earn 99 service hours per a week worked at CAMP. Additional hours may be earned by participating in other CAMP events. These include: Parent's Night Out (PNO) , Teen and Adult Day Adventure (TADA) , and our Respite Weekends . If you are interested in volunteering for PNO or TADA, please contact Arlene Gomez .
Are you a doctor, resident, medical student, nurse, nursing student, or respiratory therapist who has the heart to work with children and young adults with developmental disabilities? Our campers need YOU to help meet their medical needs. Whether you are available for six day summer camping sessions, one weekend a month, or four hours on a Friday night, you can be a valuable part of the CAMP medical staff. To volunteer as medical staff for the Summer CAMP, Weekend Respite, or Parent's Night Out programs, complete the online application and prepare yourself for the experience of a lifetime.
Are you a physical therapist, occupational therapist, teacher, counselor, or other professional that works with children and adults with special needs? You too can be part of our professional volunteer staff and assist in meeting the needs of our campers. Click here for more information.
During many of our summmer CAMP sessions, we offer our medical and professional volunteers the opportunity to participate in our Developmental Disabilities Reality Course (DDRC).
