Fred Swaney - ChairmanFred Swaney spent over 25 years as a senior construction executive. Fred’s last position was President and CEO of Omega Environmental Inc., Government and International Contracting Division. Fred also was the owner of FS Embro, an ad specialty company. He served on the Board of the Alamo Area Council Boy Scouts of America and on the Board of his church as finance chair for five years. With a lifelong love of camping and a belief that camp benefits all involved, Fred enthusiastically supports the opportunities that CAMP affords the special needs community and all those who make CAMP happen. Being raised by a single mother with special needs and being a part of her struggle to live a normal life has filled Fred with the desire to help bring the thrill of experiencing a week of camp to kids who wouldn’t get that chance. Supporting CAMP seemed like the natural thing to do after being exposed by his son who is in his 9th year volunteering and working at CAMP. “In my small way, I would like to give my service to CAMP as a program that not only positively affects the CAMPers with special needs, but the family as a whole and also the community. The volunteers benefit at CAMP as much as the special needs children do. To be allowed to offer my time and talents to a program that assists those who are in special need enriches my life. I cannot think of a better way to use my time and talents than to be given the opportunity to work for the betterment of CAMP.” Fred has been married to his wife Margie for 37 years and has two sons. Nathan works for camp as a Lead Staff. |

She earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin and her MSW at the Worden School of Social Service of Our Lady of the Lake University. Her graduate class work experience at summer camp made her a life-long supporter of CAMP. She observed, “Growing up in San Antonio, I have always been proud of my roots. San Antonio is a special place where families care about each other. It’s a city of hope and dreams with opportunities. But mostly, San Antonio is special because we are a city of values and respect. I learned the reward of hard work early, helping in the family store, Guajardo Grocery. But my parents wanted more for their children and demanded that we focus on our education. These are the stories of San Antonio – families sharing values and working to improve lives.” |
