Hannah's Story

     Hannah first stepped into CAMP as a 15-year-old volunteer, unsure of what to expect as she had never cared for someone with a disability before. After going through CAMP’s thorough training, Hannah was paired with a camper who changed her perspective on life and caregiving. That week, she formed a bond that would shape her future, sparking a life-long passion for working with individuals with different abilities. 

     Over the years, Hannah’s dedication has only grown. Hannah went from volunteering to becoming a staff member working as a Chief Cabin Counselor. Outside of CAMP, Hannah decided to major in Special Education at the University of Texas. Hannah’s journey at CAMP has not only influenced her career path but has also deepened her commitment to full inclusion and helping others experience the same dignity, respect, and belonging that CAMP values. 

     Hannah’s story is a powerful reminder of how CAMP impacts both campers and volunteers alike, creating lifelong bonds and inspiring future leaders in the field of special education and beyond.
