Karen's Story
Karen’s journey with CAMP began over 20 years ago as a nervous parent dropping off her daughter, Shelby, for the first time. Those initial worries quickly faded as CAMP became a place of growth, independence, and joy for Shelby. Now, as both a camper parent and board member, Karen deeply values the respite and support CAMP has provided her family, as well as the opportunities it offers Shelby to explore her potential in a nurturing environment.
Hannah's Story
Hannah discovered a passion for caregiving and inclusion as a 15-year-old volunteer at CAMP. The connections she made and the support she received shaped her future, leading her to pursue a career in special education. Now a Chief Cabin Counselor, Hannah continues to be inspired by CAMP’s mission of fostering dignity and belonging for individuals of all abilities.
The Peña Family's Story
As a high school freshman, Alyssa's parents were initially nervous about sending her to CAMP. However, their concerns vanished upon meeting the dedicated staff. Alyssa thrived, discovering new passions and gaining confidence. Her journey highlights CAMP's role in fostering growth, inclusion, and empowerment.
Savannah's Story
For the past 15 years, CAMP has been a sanctuary of belonging and acceptance for Savannah. As she transitioned into adulthood and had fewer social opportunities, CAMP allowed her to come out of her shell and be her true self.
Heath's Story
Before attending CAMP, Heath rarely spoke or made eye contact with others. He did not feel comfortable interacting with other kids and would rely on Heather to communicate on his behalf. However, Heath’s experiences at CAMP sparked a remarkable transformation.
